Had pioneer course today :D
Reached Guide House at like 8.50am. Mr Mail told us we were going to touch on firelighting, rope ladder, basha, axemanship and topo maps.
Firstly, we started on firelighting. He demonstrated for us first, he chungkol-ed a perfect square! And he was so strong and so pro that we would take like half an hour or something. Sarah, Priscilla and I were grouped into 1 group. We were at a spot where there was a "tombstone" underneath (just rock but pris was very kua zhang xD) The soil was very sandy and hard so it was very difficult to scoop up the soil as one perfect square. Still, we lighted the fire using 4 matches (perfect is 3)! There were 3 lighted by pris and the wind blew it off. I lighted the last match and the whole stack of kindlings and twigs! Haha. I feel so accomplished :P
Next, we did the rope ladder. We had the option of doing the "Malian(??) Hitch" and "Clove Hitch" So both groups decided to do the Malian one cos it's a new hitch and we ought to practice it. We did 12 spars and then we let the whole ladder fall down to the 1st lvl. Then, cos when we released it, it wasn't even, then 2 poles dropped out -.- compared to the other group's ours were like. haha. but mr mail 'repaired' it for us. So I was the first to climb >: \ But actually, thinking back, I liked it a lot. Then shermaine got stuck cos she was scared! But she did it in the end :) Go Shermaine!
And then we built a basha. it's quite simple though. took around 10 minutes :) first to finish! Haha. Very fun.
Then, we went for lunch at J8
I ate tako ball and cream of tomato! :D
Saw vivian phang and chin pei! Hahah.
Went back, everyone's eyelids were like half closed while Mr Mail was droning on and on about axes and saws. then practical. the chopping was fun/okay but i hated the splitting wood part. it's like very difficult!
haha then sawing. i loved the little bit of wood that I sawed. it's really cute okay. haha. but i think i'm going to throw it away sooner or later : \

haha. that's the first time i sawed in my whole entire life!
then, we did topo. quite dry but not very tiring :D
and then he told us that the test will be on 5 apr.
we have to go on a hike individually! like i am so...
> :\
but im more scared about building a rope ladder by myself in 15 minutes.
rawr. wish me luck man.
haha.
